No new Covid cases in NZ, Victoria set to reopen

Just In: Sydney's Mask Restrictions Have Been Expanded and Extended NSW records 10 new COVID-19 infections with face masks mandatory

An update of the New South Wales and New Zealand travel bubble is expected this afternoon, the Prime Minister said today.

In the past week, there have been no new COVID-19 cases of the Delta variant and health officials have determined there is unlikely to be widespread community transmission. The face mask rule - which until now only impacted certain council areas, and was due to be lifted tomorrow at midnight - has been extended for another week, and now applies to the entire Greater Sydney area, including Wollongong.

New Zealand's total number of cases is 2,363.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she believed the response was proportionate to the risk.

The Sydney coronavirus outbreak has grown by 10 cases to 21, prompting travel restrictions from Victoria and New Zealand.

"The one exception is a student at Saint Charles Catholic Primary School at Waverley and the school is in the process of notifying parents", Premier Berejeklian said.

The third is an eastern suburbs woman in her 20s who works at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre, and is linked to the Bondi cluster. "We did expect that household contacts [of existing cases] already in isolation were likely to get the virus".

Public transmission remains an area of high concern.

Five would be required to isolate for 14 days and be tested twice in that time, and all had returned a negative first test.

"Anyone in New Zealand at the Westfield Bondi Junction mall (including the auto park) in Sydney's Bondi Junction on Saturday 12 June between 11am to 12pm or Sunday 13 June between 1pm to 2pm and 4pm to 4:30pm should get tested immediately".

"Last night the Ministry of Health updated its advice for anyone in New Zealand who was at the Westfield Bondi Junction mall in Sydney last weekend".

A further 11 would be required to self-isolate until they return a negative day-five test.

Visitors to the store on Sunday 20 June between 9.30am and 10am are also considered casual contacts and must get tested and isolate until negative result is received.

"Unfortunately, a number of people who contracted the virus have done so in a very fleeting way, literally being within less than a metre of somebody but sharing the same airspace without any physical contact has still meant the virus has transferred", Ms Berejiklian said.
