"I don't think she'd be insulted but she reminded me of my mother, the look of her and just the generosity", Biden told White House pool reporters shortly before departing London's Heathrow Airport on Air Force One.

In that time, President Biden inspected the guard of honour whilst Her Majesty and Dr Biden watched on.

The monarch previously showcased the coat and its matching pleated hat with spike flowers, along with her signature pearls and white gloves, at Royal Ascot Ladies Day in 2019.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Biden said they had spoken about Russian President Vladimir Putin and China's leader Xi Jinping.

"I said I wish we could stay longer, maybe we could hold the cars up a minute, and stuff".

"She was very generous", Biden said.

It generally is frowned upon for anyone to reveal the contents of their private talks with the Queen.

In bright sunshine, the 78-year-old USA leader's Marine One helicopter landed at Windsor Castle, west of London, after the three-day G7 summit in Cornwall, southwest England, wrapped up.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely The Queen will return to the White House - a place she last visited in 2007.

He replied: "Yes, we did".

After the ceremony, he walked alongside the Queen, who was heard to say: "You completed your talks".

Queen Elizabeth II even went horseback riding with President Ronald Reagan, when in 1982 he became the first US president to stay overnight at Windsor Castle.

The monarch has now received four presidents at Windsor, with the Bidens following the Trumps in 2018, the Obamas in 2016, President George W. Bush and his wife in 2008 and the Reagans in 1982. She has since met almost every American president (Lyndon Johnson was the exception) who served during her 69 years on the throne. President Lyndon B Johnson is the only one who did not make her acquaintance while he was in office.

In glorious late afternoon sunshine and temperatures tipping 80 degrees, the latest instalment of the trans-Atlantic showstopper that is the meeting of Queen and president made for fabulous viewing.

Biden was part of a group that met with the monarch during that visit. The Queen has been riding out the pandemic at Windsor Castle, but also has begun getting out now and again after the April death of her husband, Prince Philip, at age 99.

Both Mr and Mrs Biden, along with Emmanuel Macron, were left chuckling as Her Majesty cracked jokes during the event, asking them: "Are you supposed to be looking as if you're enjoying yourself?" as they posed for a photo. It is believed the visit overran by 10 minutes.

The couple had spent over an hour at Windsor Castle, where they were greeted by the Queen in the Quadrangle for a taste of British pomp as the president-accompanied by the Officer Commanding the Guard of Honour, Major James Taylor, and Major General Christopher Ghika-inspected the Guard of Honor. They also had afternoon tea together in the Oak Room.
