Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden met one day before the Summit on Thursday discussing easing travel restrictions and agreeing on a new "Atlantic Charter".

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson pointed out that several countries have developed and manufactured COVID-19 vaccines for the world at an unprecedented pace, but a repeat pandemic needs to be prevented.

Campaigners say the G7's vaccine donations pledge for this year and next - including 500 million United States doses - is far too little, too late to end a pandemic that has claimed over 3.7 million lives worldwide.

The leaders of the west descended on Carbis Bay, along with podcasters, for this year's G7 summit.

In a statement the force says: "As part of our testing regime, during the early hours of 11 June we have identified one officer who is now supporting G7 policing and accommodated on the ferry has given a positive lateral flow test for covid".

After the traditional family photo and opening session on "building back better" from Covid-19, the leaders spent the evening at a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Cornwall's Eden Project.

The leaders are debating a pledge to protect at least 30 percent of the world's land and oceans by 2030.

The Cornwall summit will also focus on climate change ahead of the United Nations' COP15 conference on biodiversity in October and the COP26 conference on climate change in November.

Mr Johnson, who is hosting the three-day gathering at the Cornish seaside resort of Carbis Bay, said it was vital to learn from the "mistakes" of the 2008 financial crisis and tackle the "scar" of inequality.

The declaration will be published Sunday alongside the G7's final communique, following a beachside barbecue on Saturday night.

The steps to prevent future pandemics include slashing the time taken to develop and license vaccines, treatments and diagnostics for any future disease to under 100 days.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, criticised in some quarters for being too accommodating of China, welcomed the health pact.
