Mayor Sam Liccardo of San Jose announced that there will be a rally for shooting victims at City Hall Plaza on Thursday at 6 pm.

'What's clear, as the president has said, is that we are suffering from an epidemic of gun violence in this country, both from mass shootings and in the lives that are being taken in daily gun violence that doesn't make national headlines, ' White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.

"I can confirm with you that deputies did not exchange gunfire and right now we're going to preliminarily go with the assumption that it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound from the suspect", Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Russell Davis said during a briefing Wednesday. "These are and were essential workers".

"He had a specific agenda", said Kirk Bertolet, who has worked for the VTA for 12 years and was at the scene of the shooting Wednesday.

In April 2009, Cassidy was granted a restraining order he sought against a 45-year-old former girlfriend, whom The Times is not naming as she is the victim of an alleged sexual assault.

Cassidy, the woman said in a sworn statement, "exhibited major mood swings as a result of bipolar disorder" that worsened when he consumed large amounts of alcohol.

She said he enjoyed playing mind games with her, according to the court document.

"I was just shocked because I didn't expect him to do that", she added. "When he was mad, he was mad", said Nelms, who was married to Cassidy until 2005. She denied the allegations, according to KNTV.

He often spoke angrily about his co-workers and bosses, and at times directed his anger at her, Nelms told the outlet. He complained about what he saw as unfair work assignments at VTA, she told the paper. Smith said there's no information to connect another suspect to the fire.

A neighbor, who did not want to be named, said the video was captured around 5:40 a.m. and showed Cassidy leaving the house in a truck.

As per reports, the shooting took place around 6:30 a.m.in two buildings at a light rail facility for the Valley Transportation Authority, which provides bus, light rail and other transit services throughout Santa Clara County, the most populated county in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Inside, police said they found a stockpile of ammunition but have not yet publicly linked the arson call to the shooting. Minutes after the incident, a fire was reported at Cassidy's home, about 13 kilometres from the VTA office.

The fire brigade put down the fire within a few hours. Investigators found hundreds of round of ammunition in the suspect's home, after the premises was swept by an Federal Bureau of Investigation bomb squad.
