There are now 20,31,977 active cases in the country as of Tuesday.

As per his earlier statement, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital was faced with an acute shortage of oxygen, as it had only had supplies for another seven to eight hours.

"I received a call from Delhi government around 8.30 p.m. and I was assured that the Delhi government will send another vendor with oxygen soon". Most of the Delhi hospitals have oxygen left for only 8 to 12 hours. He said the need of the hour is to save the country from a lockdown, asking state governments to treat lockdowns only as the last resort and concentrate on micro-containment zones.

The Army took to Twitter on Tuesday and said, "Base Hospital Delhi Cantt BHDC is being converted into an exclusive COVID-19 facility for Indian armed forces and veterans with effect from April 22, 2021". Most patients are coming in a critical condition and require oxygen. In another tweet, he wrote, "Serious oxygen crisis persists in Delhi".

Late on Tuesday, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Office said, "We (Delhi Govt) are responding to the below query, that 241 MT of oxygen was supplied to Delhi on Monday and 355.33 MT on Tuesday (upto 3 PM) by five manufacturers, and the total stock of oxygen in the city's hospitals upto 3 PM on Tuesday was 508 MT". However, we are yet to receive oxygen so far (till 10 p.m.). Around 120 patients are now in the ICU. "No hospital beds, no oxygen, no vaccination". However, the daily positivity rate stood at a worrisome 26%. He said that the Delhi government is working on a war footing to ensure oxygen supply. "We are trying to increase oxygen production and supply across the country", he said.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Monday said that everyone above 18 years of age will be eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 from May 1, the central government said on Monday as it liberalised the vaccination drive to allow states, private hospitals and industrial establishments to procure the doses directly from manufacturers.

Twenty states are displaying an upward trajectory in daily new cases.

The health ministry said 1,761 people had died in the past day, bringing India's toll to 180,530, still well below the 567,538 deaths reported in the United States, though experts believe India's actual deaths are far more than the official count.
