Only that it is understood to have been an Auckland airport worker.

The fresh case came a day after emotional scenes at Kiwi airports as thousands of people took advantage of the trans-Tasman bubble to visit loved ones.

She said the worker had cleaned planes from high-risk countries.

During her post-Cabinet press conference, Ms Ardern described the bubble with Australia as an "important milestone" in New Zealand's economic recovery.

"The reason this person was part of our surveillance testing was because they were working in an area we consider to be high risk".

This means they are less likely to shed and infect other people.

The worker was fully vaccinated "quite early on in the campaign", Ardern confirmed.

Victoria recorded zero new local cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with four new cases in hotel quarantine.

But, a week later on the 19, they had tested positive.

"We entirely expect that people who are vaccinated will still get COVID-19", she said. So they were last tested on the 12th and then the 19th.

Under the terms of the trans-Tasman bubble agreement, all states, territories and New Zealand can suspend quarantine-free travel with places that have outbreaks.

"As vaccine rollouts happen, both here and elsewhere, that's what's going to happen".

"And it was their most recent test in which this case has been picked up".

The individual's job is to clean planes that have flown internationally from countries where Covid-19 is widespread, according to a media release from New Zealand's Ministry of Health.

Ms Ardern, speaking after the New Zealand Ministry of Health confirmed authorities were following the usual process of isolating the case, interviewing them and tracing their contact movements was underway, revealed she had not yet spoken to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

"And as we know this virus is very hard to contain, and I think the public should be reassured that there are very good health and safety regulations in place".

The person has been tested weekly for Covid-19, and had previously returned negative tests prior to today's positive test, which was carried out at their workplace yesterday.

New Zealand's Ministry of Health announced the new case on Tuesday afternoon (NZST), just a day after New Zealand dropped quarantine requirements for Australian travellers.

The case appears to be unrelated to the travel bubble though and flights with Australia have not been suspended.
