Admitting that there was shortage of oxygen and ICU beds, as well as medicines needed for serious COVID patients, the chief minister said new cases were coming up fast and there was a limit to the health infrastructure. "I hope that we will be able to add 6,000 more beds in the next two to four days", he added.

The Delhi Chief Minister has appealed to the Central Government for more beds for Covid-19 patients and additional help during the second wave of the pandemic.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will address an important press conference today amid the alarming spike in coronavirus cases in the national capital. "We thank them for it", Kejriwal said. The city also reported 161 deaths, while the positivity rate shot up to 29.74 per cent, also the highest so far. "We have noted that the number of available beds reserved for Covid patients is reducing at a fast rate". This means that almost 1 in 3 people getting tested for coronavirus were found to be positive for the infection. "In the last 24 hours, approximately 25,500 cases of Covid have come up".

The Delhi government has an app that shows the number of occupied or vacant beds available at hospitals in realtime. "We are also trying on our side, but we need your help".

He also asked the Centre to reserve 50 per cent beds in central government hospitals in Delhi for COVID-19 patients. He said he spoke to Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday morning and stressed on the need of beds for the Covid patients.

The assurance of Delhi chief minister comes at a time when people are finding it hard to admit patients in hospitals, and taking to social media with cries of help.

CM Kejriwal met Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other top officials on Monday (April 19) and it is expected that the decision to extend the weekend lockdown would be announced after this meeting.
