Fact Check: Georgia Vs. Colorado On Mail-In Voting, IDs, Lines

Atlanta about Major League Baseball's decision to pull the 2021 All Star Game from Atlanta over the league's objection to a new Georgia voting law Lauren Boebert silent on MLB moving All-Star Game to her state after attacking decision to leave Atlanta

"Last week, you "decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year's All-Star Game" from Atlanta because of Georgia's revised election law", the senator from Florida wrote.

When Major League Baseball made a decision to move the All-Star Game to Denver, it was a moment of celebration for many Colorado politicos.

He and others pointed out that Georgia offers voters 17 days of in-person early voting, while Colorado has only 15 of those in-person days.

Major League Baseball stripped Atlanta of the game last Friday, eight days after Georgia adopted a law that voting rights advocates say can make it more hard to vote and could disproportionately impact Black and other minority communities.

Kemp and others also have said that Colorado requires photo identification to vote, which is false.

Major League Baseball opted to move the game out of Atlanta due to voting laws passed in Georgia last month.

Kemp also called President Biden's appearance at the NCAA championship game in IN "so hypocritical" as the governor said the state is "the birthplace for the photo ID requirement". Furthermore, the Review linked to Colorado's Secretary of State website, which confirmed that people can use a "copy of a current (within the last 60 days) utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows the name and address of the elector" as a form of identification. "All voters who vote at the polls must provide identification".

Colorado does require some form of ID when voters register for the first time, and whenever they vote in person. But the vast majority of Coloradans don't need to show an ID in order to vote; past year, more than 94% of Colorado voters cast their ballots by returning them through the mail or in drop boxes, according to election-night data from the Colorado Secretary of State's office.

Colorado does not require identification for mail voting once a person is registered.

Baseball's 91st Midsummer Classic is scheduled on Tuesday, July 13, at the Colorado Rockies' Coors Field.

In addition to appearing hypocritical, MLB's decision may have a disproportionate effect on minority-owned businesses in Atlanta, which will lose revenues from the All-Star Game to Denver, Colorado.
