Odisha Running Out Of Covishield Vaccine Stock Delhi: Centre flags anomalies in identification of vaccine beneficiaries

Hernandez, 19, works at a Jack-in-the-Box fast food restaurant and said she sometimes feels uneasy at work because you never know which customers might have the virus, especially because people can be contagious even if they don't have COVID-19 symptoms.

Of the active cases, 318 individuals are now hospitalized with COVID-19, 96 of whom are in intensive care. "It is more important than ever to stay on track with our vaccination programs, continue to use all our layers of protection all the time and follow the provincial health orders and guidelines", provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint media statement.

The more people we can protect with vaccines, the more protection is extended to our communities, our province and Canada as a whole.

Today, we are reporting two periods: April 3 to 4, we had 999 cases, and in the last 24-hours, we had a further 890 cases for a two-day total of 1,889 new cases. The third phase opens amid a sharp surge in Covid-19 cases over the past month.

Since April 1, there have been 916 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern in our province, for a total of 3,559 cases (588 are active). That includes 2,771 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant associated with the United Kingdom, 737 cases of the P.1 variant associated with Brazil, and 51 cases of the B.1.351 variant associated with South Africa.

Reports have suggested the P.1 variant is involved in the outbreak within the Vancouver Canucks that has forced 17 of the team's 22 players to be sidelined under the NHL's pandemic protocols, though officials have not commented on the test results.

Hays County has tallied 671 COVID-19 cases over the past 21 days.

As case numbers remain alarmingly high, the province has been ramping up its vaccination efforts.

Gov. Phil Scott receives the Covid-19 vaccine at a clinic in Montpelier on Monday.

That total includes 806,118 first doses - enough to protect almost 16 per cent of the province's population - and 87,472 second doses. "Therefore, those who got vaccinated also should not give up precautions like masks, two yards and frequent hand washing", he told reporters at a press conference in Jaipur.

The province is launching its new vaccine appointment registration system at 8 a.m. Tuesday, when anyone 71 or older and Indigenous residents 18 and older can book their shot.

He also acknowledged that a higher proportion of younger people are becoming ill from the disease.
