The 38-year-old laid out more details on Twitter yesterday on his allegations of a smear campaign. People can look at my travel records and see that that is not the case'. It goes on to allege that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has learned of images of Gaetz in a "sexual orgy with underage prostitutes". "She was told that if she wouldn't cop to the fact that, somehow, I was involved in some pay-for-play scheme, that she could face trouble". "I can say that you and I went to dinner about two years ago". 'And she was actually threatened by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, told that if she wouldn't cop to the fact that somehow I was involved in some pay for play scheme that she could face trouble and so I do believe that there are people at the Department of Justice who are trying to smear me'.

"I don't remember the woman you're speaking of or the context at all", replies Carlson after a beat.

I don't know how you can criminalize someone's sexual misconduct unless that conduct is, you know, criminal, but okay!

A top Republican ally of Donald Trump is the subject of an investigation into "sexual conduct with women", it emerged on Tuesday.

Matt Gaetz, the emphatically pro-Trump, anti-human decency congressman from Florida, is reportedly under investigation for possible sexual relations with an underage girl and trafficking charges.

He denied that he ever had a relationship with any underage girls and said the allegations against him were "as searing as they are false".

Gaetz is under investigation to determine if he violated federal sex trafficking laws, said the people who were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity.

According to documents obtained and reported by the Washington Examiner, Gaetz's family was approached by former Air Force intelligence officer Bob Kent, who claimed that he had located former agent Robert Levinson, whose family presumed him to be dead. Tucker Carlson, Fox's highest-rated primetime host, is reportedly fuming at Gaetz over the congressman's attempt to rope him into the controversy during an interview on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" that Carlson characterized immediately after as "one of the weirdest" he's conducted. He also gave the name of a former Justice official, David McGee, as the person extorting him.

When Gaetz appeared on Tuesday night's program, he claimed to Carlson that he is the victim of "extortion" involving a DOJ official who's seeking $25 million.

Mr Gaetz said his family has been cooperating with the FBI and that he and his father had been wearing a recording device at the bureau's request "to catch these criminals".

"No part of the allegations against me are true and the people pushing these lies are targets of the ongoing extortion investigation", he wrote.

According to Times sources, the investigation into Gaetz is part of a broader probe into Joel Greenberg, a former Seminole County, Florida, tax collector and an acquaintance of Gaetz.

Gaetz continued: "So I do believe there are people at the Department of Justice who are trying to smear me.

There is not a single conservative television station I haven't had a passing conversation with about life after Congress", Gaetz told The Beast.

"Providing for flights and hotel rooms for people that you're dating who are of legal age is not a crime", he told Carlson. I've been, you know, generous as a partner.

Upon his return, Carlson said "that was one of the weirdest interviews I've ever conducted", adding that he didn't think it "clarified much".

In late 2017, Gaetz was the only member of Congress to vote against a bill meant to use the Department of Transportation to assist in combating human trafficking, arguing against the expansion of the role of the federal government.
