Formal investigations into how the giant container ship Ever Given ran aground in the Suez Canal, shutting down shipping in the major global waterway for nearly a week, begin on Wednesday, a canal official told Reuters.

"The crisis was big", the president said during his visit to the Maritime Training and Simulation Centre of the Suez Canal Authority in Ismailia, adding that the problem was "solved without losses in the lives or the ship".

Tugs managed to refloat the 400-metre-long Ever Given on Monday.

The vessel was freed Monday after a flotilla of tugboats, helped by the tides, wrenched its bulbous bow from the canal's eastern bank, where it had been firmly lodged since March 23.

The Ever Given has been anchored in the Great Bitter Lake, the canal's midway point, since being refloated on Monday.

Rabie said daily losses of the canal due to the six-day blockage caused by the Ever Given ship is estimated at 12-15 million US dollars. Two days later, ships waited as far as 100 kilometres (60 miles) from the canal entry.

The investigation includes examining the equipment of the ship, determining whether they had been used before it got stuck, and if they gave warning before the stranding or not.

Mr. Ricafort said that transport and shipping costs for some Philippine exports and imports will increase due to the delay to ships undertaking longer-than-expected voyages.

"This poses a risk to supply chains given that this time period is close to the inventory days for some manufacturers and will have a ripple effect on many others", Ms. Zhou was quoted as saying in Wood Mackenzie's Asia Pacific Energy Buzz blog.

He said the navigation of the ship would depend on "several legal and procedural" measures that the canal authority would discuss with the Ever Given's operator.
