Democrats have their own voting rights bill proceeding through Congress, hoping to defend voter access on a national level.

Democrats dismissed the bills as a blatant attempt to restrict voter turnout, especially among people of color.

Protesters are then seen taunting the officer as Cannon raps on the door before two officers handcuff the legislator.

Kemp signed the bill less than two hours after it received final passage in the Georgia General Assembly.

The bill passed along party lines in both chambers of the state legislature.

MI is among 43 states where Republicans have introduced bills that would restrict ballot access, according to the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School.

"It will make what we all lived through in 2020, child's play", said Lauren Groh-Wargo, CEO of the nonprofit Fair Fight Action.

Democratic Rep. Rhonda Burnough charged that the legislation was triggered by Republican-circulated lies regarding last November's election cycle, as reported by The Associated Press.

"Georgians turned out in record-breaking numbers because they could access the ballot", Burnough said.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said the bills are too restrictive and are in response to false narratives about rampant election fraud.

The Missouri House on Thursday approved several changes to state election laws, including requiring photo IDs before voting.

Republican Rep. Jan Jones said the provisions cutting the time people have to request an absentee ballot are meant to "increase the likelihood of a voter's vote being cast successfully", after concerns were raised about mail ballots not being received in time to be counted.

President Biden denounced recent attempts by Republican lawmakers across the U.S.to enact stricter requirements that could make it more hard for people to vote, calling the efforts "sick" and "un-American".

"Our goal is to ensure that voters in Georgia have confidence in the elections process", GOP state Sen. They would be able to replace local election officials and allow unlimited challenges to voter registrations. "Given the substantial changes we'd be making with this legislation, why not take more time to get county input on the proposed legislation and take this up next session?" "We're trying to fix a problem that does not exist". And it bars outside groups from handing out food or water to people in line to vote.

The law does not contain some of the more contentious proposals floated by Republicans earlier in the session, including limits on early voting on Sundays, a popular day for Black churchgoers to vote in "souls to the polls" events. It would instead mandate two Saturdays of early voting ahead of general elections, when only one is now mandatory, and leave two Sundays as optional.

The U.S.is at an important juncture and the enshrinement of voting rights is absolutely necessary to the survival of democracy and the "great experiment" of America. But the prospects of the bills he promoted Thursday becoming law is distant, for now, as Republicans are broadly opposed to a lot of them and the Senate is narrowly divided 50-50.

During the rally, Bishop Reginald Jackson of the African Methodist Episcopal Church called for a boycott of Coca-Cola Co. products.

On Thursday, the Georgia State House passed an omnibus package that would expand early voting in most counties, require voters to put down a drivers' license or another identifying number to verify their mail ballots, and make the use of ballot dropboxes permanent but limit how many boxes counties are allowed to offer.

"We took them at his word", he said of Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey. "I mean, this is enormous what they're trying to do and it can not be sustained".
