British Columbia health officials will return to the podium Thursday to provide a live update on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province.

Province-wide, the first day total was 14,949.

"They contracted with a provider who is in the call centre business. That contractor, the provider, Telus, failed us yesterday", Dix said in the provincial legislature.

When Horgan was asked why Vancouver Coastal Health, which had the some of the most problems in taking calls, didn't have an online booking system like Fraser Health did, he did not answer the question directly but said that every regional health authority is different and has different issues to address. No deaths were reported in the Island Health region, where the death toll remains at 28.

"Vancouver Coastal Health was fully dependent on our call centre provider to provide services based on the contract they had signed with us and the promises they repeatedly made about being prepared". Meanwhile incidence in Interior Health remained level and decreased in Northern Health. Among them, there are 244 patients hospitalized and 66 in intensive care.

There's been one additional COVID-19 related death, for a total of 1,394.

There have been 627 total VoC cases, with 109 active.

There are 275 active cases, 17 of whom are in hospital. This includes 580 cases of the United Kingdom variant, 33 cases of the South Africa variant and 14 cases of the Brazil variant.

With the arrival of 194,500 doses of the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine, select pharmacies will begin booking appointments starting in three public health unit regions: Toronto, Windsor-Essex, and Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington.

On Wednesday, health officials announced 531 new cases of COVID-19, including 19 on Vancouver Island.
