Widespread condemnation of the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia

Saudi-led coalition intercepts several Houthi drones Dhaka condemns drone attacks in Saudi Arabia by Houthi rebels

In the evening, shrapnel from a ballistic missile fell near a residential quarter of the Aramco oil company in Saudi Arabia's eastern city of Dhahran, where thousands of the firm's employees and their families from different nationalities live, the monarchy's Energy Ministry said.

In February, Biden declared a halt to USA support for offensive operations by the coalition but said the United States would continue to help Saudi Arabia defend itself.

In another press release, the foreign ministry said that the government strongly condemned the drone attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia allegedly by Houthi rebels on February 10 and 17. The strikes have increased in frequency and precision in recent weeks, raising concerns about Saudi Arabia's air defenses and the expanding capabilities of the Iran-backed rebels across the border.

The Saudi Defence Ministry called both attacks a "terrorist, cowardly aggression", targeting the world's energy supplies.

AFP reported plumes of smoke rising over Sanaa because of the air strikes, which numbered seven according to the Houthis. The terror designation, imposed late in the administration of former U.S. president Donald Trump, had been widely criticised by aid organisations, who warned it would hamper their efforts to alleviate a humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

US diplomats in Saudi Arabia issued warnings to Americans in the kingdom, citing suspected attacks and explosions - from the western port city of Jiddah to the eastern province of Damman.

In Sanaa, a Reuters witness reported several air strikes. US diplomats in Saudi Arabia issued warnings to Americans in the country, urging them to "stay alert in case of additional future attacks".

Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, has downed a Saudi Air Force Karayel reconnaissance plane, built by Turkey, the movement's Al-Masirah TV channel said Sunday.

There was no acknowledgment from Saudi Arabia, and the rebels did not provide evidence to support their claim.

There have been also clashes in the province of Taiz. Its medical center, al-Thawra Hospital, came under heavy gunfire, an attack that wounded at least three, including a health care worker and 12-year-old boy.

Houthi military spokesmen Yahya Sarea speaks in Sanaa, Yemen, on March 7, 2021.

The escalation comes even after the United States last month delisted the Huthis as terrorists and stepped up efforts to de-escalate the six-year conflict.

The attack on energy giant Aramco's facilities came as the Saudi-led military coalition bombed Yemen's Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa after intercepting a separate flurry of cross-border Huthi drones and missiles.

The grinding conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions, according to global organisations, sparking what the United Nations calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Five of the drones were headed towards Saudi Arabia, the colonel added, but did not specify any locations within the kingdom.
