YouTube Removes Five Myanmar Military-Run TV Channels From Platform After Coup

Myanmar Security Forces Fire on Protesters, Killing Several US Adds Myanmar's Defense Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry, MEC and MEHL to Entity List

Security forces in Myanmar again used force Saturday to disperse anti-coup protesters, a day after the United Nations special envoy urged the Security Council to take action to quell junta violence that this week left about 50 peaceful demonstrators dead and scores injured.

The company said it was monitoring the situation for any content that might violate its rules.

Google said in December it had terminated 34 YouTube channels following investigation into coordinated influence operations linked to Myanmar.

The company said Friday that it terminated channels of broadcasters Myawaddy Media, MRTV, WD Online Broadcasting, MWD Variety and MWD Myanmar.

Last month the Security Council voiced concern over the state of emergency and called for the release of detained leaders including Aung San Suu Kyi but stopped short of condemning the coup because of opposition from China and Russian Federation. The report showed that despite the order, Myanmar security forces continued to murder, torture, and fire indiscriminately on Rohingya civilians, while continuing to deny them equal access to citizenship rights.

At least one man was killed by security forces in protests on Friday.

Bachelet said more than 1 700 people had been arrested, including 29 journalists.

Demonstrators returned to the streets of Yangon, the country's largest city, on Thursday, but police appeared to use force to disperse the crowds again.

Many cases of targeted brutality by security forces in the streets have been captured in photos and videos that have circulated widely on social media. Videos have showed security forces shooting people at point-blank range and chasing and savagely beating demonstrators. When the military junta suppressed pro-democracy demonstrations in 1988, thousands of people were reportedly killed by indiscriminate gunfire.

Such amendments seem aimed at facilitating the repression of civil dissent and peaceful protest and should be reversed.

Countries could also impose their own individual arms embargoes on Myanmar, also known as Burma, without waiting for the United Nations (UN) and we need to see worldwide support to refer Myanmar's military to the global Criminal Court, Ms Roberts explained.

The committee representing Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) lawmakers has also called for robust, targeted sanctions and an arms embargo against the junta in a March 4 letter sent to United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres.

"The answer was: "We are used to sanctions, and we survived", she told reporters in NY.

The department further noted it had moved Myanmar into Country Group D:1, which places additional restrictions on exports to the southeast Asian country, including especially "military end use" and "military end user" restrictions.

Schraner Burgener also told the council that the situation in Myanmar was moving toward "an acute humanitarian crisis".

The country's military leaders on Saturday also attempted to tackle the ongoing "Civil Disobedience Movement", that urges civil servants to boycott working under a military regime. This ban was following the US tech giant's decision to ban all pages linked to Myanmar's army. Myanmar is an ASEAN member.

But he also warned that the approach favored by some Western nations of pressuring Myanmar's generals with sanctions would not be effective.

"Despite all our fervour and earnest hopes of reconciliation. the keys ultimately lie within Myanmar".

"There should not be any more loss of lives".

"Despite these attacks, and the grave danger that they face, the people of Myanmar continue to rise up as a diverse yet powerfully unified whole".
