Duke of Edinburgh transferred to second hospital in ambulance

St Bartholomew's Hospital Prince Philip health: Duke transferred for ‘testing and observation’ - Palace statement

Prince Philip, 99, has now been at King Edward VII Hospital in London for 14 days after being admitted on February 16, making this his longest ever stay in hospital.

Doctors treating Prince Philip, 99, will also undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition, the palace said.

The Duke of Edinburgh began his third week in hospital today as his treatment for an infection continues amid claims the Queen is unlikely to visit him.

The 99-year-old was taken to hospital as a "precautionary measure" on February 18 after "feeling unwell", where he has remained for nearly two weeks - his longest stay in hospital so far.

Photographers and TV crews at the King Edward hospital had earlier seen a patient being moved into an ambulance, shielded from watching media outside by staff with umbrellas and police, although there was no confirmation this was the prince.

Philip is said to be in "good spirits" and walks into the private hospital unaided. Barts Heart Centre is Europe's largest specialised cardiovascular service, according to the hospital's website.

He is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.

Two days later the Duke of Cambridge said his grandfather was "OK" and that doctors were "keeping an eye" on him.

Despite Edward's comments, according to The Sun newspaper, over the weekend, Prince Charles visited his father in the hospital and "seemed worried" when he left the site.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been in hospital since February 16, receiving treatment for an infection.

Both Philip and the Queen, 94, received COVID-19 vaccinations in January.

Members of the Royal Family, including the Queen, have continued with their official duties during the duke's hospital stay.

"As far as I know, well, I talked to him the other day, so he's much better, thank you very much, and he's looking forward to leaving, which is a very positive thing".

Prince Edward said his father was feeling frustrated inside the hospital as "you can only watch the clock so many times and the walls are only so interesting".

Prince Philip, who is turning 100 on June 10, has been self-isolating at Windsor Castle with the Queen for the most part of 2020 and was in Berkshire before being admitted to hospital.
