They warned that Iran's actions could threaten delicate efforts to bring the USA back into the 2015 deal and end sanctions damaging Iran's economy.
This would involve Washington revoking Trump's 2018 withdrawal and green-lighting an Iranian request for an emergency International Monetary Fund loan, while Iran freezes "the most problematic aspects" of its nuclear programme, he said.
The officials said the USA had reversed travel restrictions that the Trump administration had put in place on Iranian diplomats at the United Nations.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said: "I am pleased that the new United States administration is returning to the path of diplomacy".
"There is a short window of time to limit the damage that could ensue from Iran's next steps, for example by reducing the impact of such moves on the quality of inspections by global monitors", Geranmayeh said.
The five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council (Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States) plus Germany agreed with Iran to a landmark deal to prevent Tehran from building a nuclear weapon. Blinken had joined via videoconference.
The diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the suspension of the implementation of the additional protocol "does not mean that the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency should leave Iran", because they would be able to stay under the nuclear deal. The accord has been unraveling since Trump pulled the US out of the agreement.
The diplomats noted "the risky nature of a decision to limit IAEA access, and urge Iran to consider the consequences of such grave action, particularly at this time of renewed diplomatic opportunity".
"Iran's nuclear programme is growing by the day, as the time it would take to enrich enough uranium for a single nuclear weapon shrinks", said Ali Vaez, Iran project director at the International Crisis Group (ICG).
But the joint statement said that, if Iran comes back into "compliance" with its commitments under the deal, the USA would do the same and would be prepared to engage in further discussions with the country.
"From Tehran's point of view as they're watching what's happening in Paris today, they want the European signatories to the deal and Washington to get together and take a substantial and significant step towards restoring this deal and towards lifting the snactions that were imposed by Washington during the Trump's administration's "maximum pressure" campaign", said Sayah. Tehran denies it is seeking such an arsenal. They endanger the Americans' path back into this agreement.
"The more pressure is applied, the more hard it gets to find a political solution.Talks are being significantly complicated at the moment because Iran obviously does not seek de-escalation but escalation - and this is playing with fire", Maas said, as quoted by Reuters. Besides overcoming disagreements over the sequencing of an agreement, the United States also intends to lengthen and strengthen the deal to restrain Iran's ballistic missile program and curb its support for proxy militias across the Middle East. Iran opposed such terms during its negotiations with the Obama administration.
The U.S. said Monday that it would welcome an invitation to talks about a deal made with Iran in 2015, a deal Washington withdrew from during the Trump administration.
