New Zealand lashes at Australia in citizenship row over terror suspect

‘Tired of Australia exporting its problems’: Ardern denounces Morrison over detainee in Turkey New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern criticises Australia for stripping dual national terror suspect's citizenship

"New Zealand had helped 'establish the conditions for the current intra-Afghan peace process" and "improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan, particularly in Bamyan Province", Henare said.

Ardern said Australia abdicated its responsibility for dealing with the woman.

"If the shoe were on the other foot, we would take responsibility".

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said New Zealand had deployed more than 3,500 defence and other agency personnel to the country since the USA -led invasion in 2001, with 10 New Zealanders killed in the line of duty.

The alleged terror suspect was born in New Zealand but lived in Australia since she was just six years old and built her life there.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, this time, has not shied away from telling her Australian counterpart that his country is at "wrong" this time.

At the centre of the conflict between Wellington and Canberra is a 26-year-old woman who was recently detained, reportedly while attempting to clandestinely exit Syria.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has posted about a toy bunny forgotten at Hamilton Airport - and is calling on Kiwis to help track down its family.

Her pregnancy and maternity leave while in office in 2018 was hailed as symbolising progress for women leaders. Her family and friends are in Australia. There is significant immigration between the two southern hemisphere countries and dual citizenship is not uncommon. "I think New Zealand, frankly, is exhausted of having Australia export its problems. That's my job", said Morrison, according to Reuters.

Ms Ardern posted a selfie on Thursday of her holding the bunny - which has been given the nickname "wink" - three weeks to the day it became lost at the airport.

"I never believed the right response was to simply have a race to revoke people's citizenships ... they did not act in good faith", she said. That would be the right thing to do.

Morrison was unapologetic when asked about the move during a press conference in Canberra. The two prime ministers are scheduled to speak later today.

"We do not want to see terrorists who fought with terrorism organizations enjoying privileges of citizenship, which I think they forfeit the second they engage as an enemy of our country", Morrison said.

"The legislation that was passed through our Parliament automatically cancels the citizenship of a dual citizen where they've been engaged in terrorist activities of this nature".
