Trump calls McConnell an 'unsmiling political hack' in lengthy statement

Ex-president Donald Trump blasted the top Republican in the US Senate Mitch McConnell Pelosi Plans '9/11-type Commission' to Investigate Capitol Attack as Trump's Legal Woes Mount

The gap between them widened when McConnell declared on the Senate floor on Saturday that Trump was "practically and morally responsible" for the deadly January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol.

"What I would say to Senator McConnell: I know Trump can be a handful, but he is the most dominant figure in the Republican Party", th South Carolina Republican continued.

He went on to write: "Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again".

As per the poll, which was released three days after Trump's acquittal in his second impeachment trial, 59 per cent of Republicans said they would happily support the former US President to play a prominent role in their Republican Party.

"There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day".

"Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again", Trump said. Mitch McConnell and John Thune during Monday's Hannity monologue for their condemnation of former President Donald Trump following the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. "He was a hell of a president on all of the things that conservatives really believe in". Mr. Trump's lawyers said the former president did not provoke the January 6 attack on the Capitol and that he wanted his followers to demonstrate peacefully after he spoke at a "Stop the Steal" rally in Washington.

The uncivil war in the GOP also claimed maverick attorney Rudy Giuliani after the former President's office said on Tuesday that he no longer represents Trump in legal cases.

Trump is facing multiple state investigations, including a probe into calls he made to Georgia elections officials in an attempt to overturn the presidential election results, as well as two defamation lawsuits filed by women who accused him of sexual assault.

"He didn't get away with anything - yet, yet", he added.

Many analysts however blame that loss on Trump himself, for his unsettling refusal to accept President Joe Biden's strong November 3 election victory, based on groundless claims of fraud.

But Mr Trump blamed the wily veteran lawmaker, who for four years as majority leader kept the Senate aligned with the Republican president, for losing party control of the body.

"Defendants Trump and Giuliani engaged in a concerted campaign to misinform their supporters and the public, encouraging and promoting intimidation and violence in furtherance of their common plan to promote the reelection of Defendant Trump, even after the states had certified election results decisively showing he lost the election, and to disrupt the legally required process before Congress to supervise the counting of the Electoral College ballots and certify the results of that count", the lawsuit stated.

"My only regret is that McConnell "begged" for my strong support and endorsement before the great people of Kentucky in the 2020 election, and I gave it to him", Mr Trump said.

"This is a big moment for our country, and we can not let it pass by using third rate "leaders" to dictate our future!"
