Trump took aim at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Tuesday (local time), accusing him being a "hack" for not joining his effort to undermine the result of the 2020 presidential election which saw him lose the White House to Joe Biden.

Richard Burr over his vote to convict former President Donald Trump during Trump's second impeachment trial.

"Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again", Trump said in the statement.

In a Monday op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, McConnell again accused Trump of "moral responsibility" for the Capitol attack, adding that the former president's "behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended".

While McConnell didn't vote to convict Trump in the Senate impeachment trial (seven Republicans did), he still delivered a disparaging speech, laying the blame for the violent mob who attacked the Capitol building in Washington DC squarely at the feet of Trump.

The deeply personal attack follows McConnell's speech over over the weekend saying that Trump was responsible for the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6.

"What I would say to Senator McConnell: I know Trump can be a handful, but he is the most dominant figure in the Republican Party", th South Carolina Republican continued.

It was that claim, both McConnell and Democrats say, which incited the unprecedented attack on Congress on January 6.

"Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First". Furthermore, McConnell used his power as then-majority leader to delay Trump's Senate trial until after he left office.

The districts' actions set up a collision course with the state Republican Party organization, where chairman Glenn Clary has supported a "big tent" approach to party membership.

Rudy Giuliani is no longer "currently" representing former President Trump in legal matters, per CNN.

"The Republican Party is useless". "If we're going to move on from Donald Trump, it was going to be messy".

"This is a big moment for our country, and we can not let it pass by using third rate "leaders" to dictate our future!" He's laying the groundwork now, and I guarantee you, that will be the litmus test for Trump's support in 2022.

In remarks on the Senate floor shortly after Trump was cleared in a 57-43 vote, McConnell suggested that the former President could be subject to criminal prosecution.

"His behaviour during and after the chaos was also unconscionable".

He believes there could be a silent majority of Republicans who support Murkowski, even if they don't agree with every action she takes.

Among Republican senators who were in office for Trump's entire term, only Susan Collins of ME and Rand Paul of Kentucky voted in line with Trump's positions less than Murkowski.

Murkowski voted in line with Trump's positions 72.6% of the time while he was in office, according to the political website FiveThirtyEight.
