The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting the snow will mainly occur after 10 a.m. Thursday with a total snow accumulation of between three and five inches. Plowable snowfall is likely and may potentially mix with sleet, freezing rain and rain overnight, according to the National Weather Service. Coastal areas, including Southern Maine, are expected to see sleet accumulation of 3/4 inch and ice accumulation of 2/10 to 3/10 of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest snow in the Northeast is expected from northern and central Pennsylvania through upstate NY and central and northern New England.

In terms of timing, snow from the northwest moving storm should start falling as early as 1 p.m. Thursday in the Berkshires.

The north Alabama winter storm warning will go into effect at 4 p.m. today and last until 6 a.m. Thursday for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence and Limestone counties.

The weather service said up to an inch of snow and sleet and a light glaze of ice will be possible in the advisory area. Expect lows in the teens tomorrow night.

A storm stretching from Thursday to Friday could drop up to an inch of snow an hour at some points and make travel very hard, forecasters said in a winter storm watch that warns of heavy snow for much of central Pennsylvania.
