Ontario reports fewer than 1000 new COVID-19 infections, 42 more deaths

Bennie Garza | 14 February, 2021, 20:53

The 42 new deaths brings the provincial total up to 6,693.

The Province of Ontario has confirmed 1,076 new cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the total number of cases in the Province to 283,587.

Ontario reported 981 new cases of COVID-19 and 42 more deaths on Sunday.

Five deaths previously reported as COVID-19-related were removed from that list in the latest report.

More than half of today's new cases are from the Greater Toronto Area, including 122 new cases in Toronto, 209 new cases in Peel and 171 new positives in York Region. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported. Three cases have resolved since yesterday's report.

On Saturday, Toronto logged 433 new cases of the novel coronavirus, while Peel recorded 253 and York reported 116.

The next update from the Ottawa COVID-19 Testing Taskforce will be released Tuesday, Feb. 16, due to the Family Day holiday.

The province reported 68,812 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 2.3 per cent positivity rate.

Overall, there have been 275,880 cases in the province.

The province has reported 41 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and six new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The number of tests processed in the last 24-hour period saw a notable drop compared to a day ago.

Provincial health officials say there are 705 people hospitalized with the virus across Ontario, but they expect that number to increase as 10 per cent of hospitals did not submit data to the Daily Bed Census on Sunday, which is often observed on weekends.

The province has administered more than 467,600 doses of the approved Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. To date, 10 million tests have been completed.

The province has reported three cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).

Elliott said almost 58,800 tests were completed and 456,947 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.

In total, 136,988 people have been fully vaccinated, having received two doses of vaccine, which are to be given a few weeks apart.

"Ontario is gradually transitioning public health regions into a revised and strengthened COVID-19 Response Framework", Elliott tweeted.
