Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize Over Israel-UAE Peace Deal

Jared Kushner Donald Trump, Greta Thunberg, WHO, Kremlin Critic on The List of Nobel Peace Prize Nominees

Dershowitz-who is eligible to nominate individuals because of his status as a former Harvard Law professor-argued that Kushner and his associate Avi Berkowitz helped negotiate the Abraham Accords.

But former President Ronald Reagan also authorised the use of military force in Lebanon back in 1983 which in effect makes Jimmy Carter the last "peaceful" USA president before Donald Trump who neither launched a new war nor sanctioned his country's military clashes with other state actors. Kushner is also Trump's son-in-law. He was eligible to do so in his capacity as a professor emeritus of Harvard Law School, he said in a tweet past year.

The Black Lives Matter movement has been nominated for a 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a statement, Kushner said he was honoured to be nominated for the prize, which will be awarded in October.

Twitter erupted at the announcement, with many predicting Kushner wouldn't come close to winning.

The nominations require no invitation and as long they are entered before February 1 of the qualifying year, they will be accepted.

Kushner and Berkowitz were not the only people working on regional issues to be nominated.

One person suggested that even being nominated for the award would have a negative impact for the Nobel organisation.

King, a Baptist minister who became a leader of the 1960s civil rights movement, won the Nobel prize in 1964 and remains among its most famous laureates.

Trump was nominated in 2018 and again this year - both times by far-Right Norwegian politician Christian Tybring-Gjedde.

The agreements were significant because most states in the Middle East and North Africa do not recognize Israel.

"And if they're fair, I think [Kushner and Berkowitz] will be given serious consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize".

Dershowitz seemed to address the predicted controversy in his nomination letter. Nor is it an assessment of what the global community may think of those who helped bring about peace. Petter Eide, a member of Norway's Parliament, nominated the movement this week, calling it "a very important worldwide movement to fight racial injustice". "It is an award for fulfilling the daunting criteria set out by Alfred Nobel in his will", he wrote, according to Reuters.
