He raised a total of £32.7 million, with donations from 1.5 million supporters, before his fundraising page was closed at midnight following his 100th birthday on April 30.
He said it was a sad day and he had been hoping Captain Sir Tom would pull through, as he was a father figure to the village and his loss would be felt across the country.
During the United Kingdom lockdown, Sir Tom had walked 100 laps of his garden in honour of his then-upcoming 100th birthday, to raise £1000 (NZ$1900) for the NHS.
Over the last five years, Sir Tom had been receiving treatment for prostate and skin cancer, his family said.
In a statement, Hannah and Lucy said: "We are so grateful that we were with him during the last hours of his life; Hannah, Benjie and Georgia by his bedside and Lucy on FaceTime".
'We spent hours chatting to him, reminiscing about our childhood and our wonderful mother.
In a national crisis in which heroism has sprung from many places, and in many guises, Captain Sir Tom Moore's extraordinary contribution struck a unique chord with the British public.
Moore had raised the money after walking up and down his garden aided by a walking aid in a bid to raise funds.
"The a year ago of our father's life was nothing short of remarkable". The family thought they would struggle to reach their initial 1,000-pound target last week. "He was rejuvenated and experienced things he'd only ever dreamed of", his daughters said.
They said staff had been "unfalteringly professional, kind and compassionate and have given us many more years with him than we ever would have imagined".
His efforts earned him a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth in July a year ago, who also upgraded his rank to Honorary Colonel on his 100th Birthday.
Buckingham Palace said the Queen was sending a private message of condolence to Moore's family.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said that the vereran's "courage, compassion, resilience, hope and generosity have been an inspiration for millions, and an example for us all".
"On behalf of everyone in the NHS, I want to pay tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore who has been the model of all that has been good about our country's response to Covid-19", she said.
"We have been working with Captain Tom to create positive impact around causes close to his and the families hearts, from combating loneliness to championing education and equality and of course supporting the incredible NHS carers and frontline workers whom he held in such high regard".
