Wisconsin's Republican Congressmen call for Keystone XL pipeline to be completed

Biden Order Blocks Keystone XL Pipeline : Inauguration Day: Live Updates Biden to Cancel Keystone XL Pipeline

Despite Trudeau's disappointment, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that Biden's first phone call from a head of state as president will be with Trudeau on Friday.

"President Biden has an opportunity to signal that access to good-paying jobs is truly a priority for his administration, by reconsidering his decision to stop construction of the Keystone XL pipeline", said Fitzgerald in the statement.

Calgary-based TC Energy Corp. said Biden's action overturns extensive regulatory reviews that found the pipeline would transport needed energy in an environmentally responsible way and bolster North American energy security.

NDP Opposition Leader Rachel Notley commented it was a hard day for the province's energy sector and that the Biden decision would harm thousands of Alberta workers and their families.

The Biden decision was condemned by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

In a recent letter to Biden, several groups -including the National Association of Manufacturers - attempted to convince him that the project had evolved considerably since he was last in the Oval Office, and was created to meet "future energy demand in the most sustainable way possible". Environmental activists have largely opposed the pipeline's construction.

"Leaving the Keystone XL pipeline permit in place would not be consistent with my Administration's economic and climate imperatives", he said in the order.

AED has supported the project for the past decade through the permit's original rejection by the Barack Obama administration and subsequent approval from the Donald Trump administration in 2017, a release said.

"There are some really big foreign policy questions floating around", Farney said.

Federal Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole called the cancellation of the permit "devastating".

Congressman Matt Rosendale had this statement: "I sent a letter to the President-Elect before he was even inaugurated asking him to please reconsider this job killing action and his actions yesterday are going to have terrible consequences for Montana's economy and our nation's security", said Rosendale. "Canada is the single-largest supplier of energy to the United States, contributing to USA energy security and economic competitiveness, and supporting thousands of jobs on both sides of the border".

"This means that Alberta, Canada, and the Keystone XL pipeline are part of the solution in the energy transition".

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said Biden's decision is a gut punch for his province, which has a stake in the project. Currently, a pipeline extends from Alberta all the way to the Gulf Coast, with several refineries along the way.
