Earlier, Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam filed a complaint against the creators, directors, and actors of the web series, alleging they have insulted Hindu Gods. "Earlier, theatrical releases constituted a larger share of the pie but now due to covid-19, digital platforms have become nearly the primary viewing mode for most content", Chandrima Mitra, partner at DSK Legal had said in an earlier interview to Mint explaining why certain groups look at web releases now to be offended by or send notices to. Another BJP leaders Manoj Kotak had written to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, asking for a ban on the series and a regulatory authority for OTT platforms at large.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kapil Mishra issued a legal notice to Amazon Prime. "Strict against should be taken against the actor, director and producer of the web series", he said.

Tandav also stars Dimple Kapadia and Mohn Zeeshan Ayyub in the lead roles. "They should remove the series and apologise to all Hindus", he said. "The FIR was lodged at Hazratganj police station by its Senior Sub Inspector Amarnath Yadav himself after he saw the allegedly objectionable web series", the DCP said.

Sharing the picture of his letter to Javadekar on Twitter, Kotak said as there is no law or autonomous body governing digital content and films on such platforms are full of sex, violence, drugs, abuse, hate and vulgarity.

The makers of web series "Tandav" on Amazon Prime Video Monday issued an unconditional apology for "unintentionally" hurting sentiments of the public over some scenes depicting Hindu deities in a "bad light". "Sometimes, they also hurt religious sentiments", the MP added. Kadam later tweeted that the show must remove a show which allegedly insults Hindu God Shiva.

"The ministry has taken cognizance of the matter (complaints) and asked Amazon Prime Video to explain", a source in the ministry had said.

To be sure, Tandav is the first web original to come under the scanner since OTT (over-the-top) streaming content was officially brought under the ambit of the I&B ministry this November though there are no guidelines on regulation of web content yet. "I urge the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ban Tandav for the meantime". "I also said there should be a law to control the OTT platforms", Sarang informed. Also, it states that the person holding a dignified post like that of prime minister has been shown in a very derogatory manner throughout the web series.
