Phelan, Ferdinand and Neville react as United go top of the league

Paul Pogba's Individual Highlights vs Burnley Prove He's Officially Back To His Best Resurgent Man United back on top of the Premier League

Pogback on top: Paul Pogba's victor at Burnley took Manchester United top of the Premier League for the first time in three years.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba admits he was unhappy with the referee after his team's 1-0 win over Burnley.

Despite continued speculation over his future, Pogba has played an increasingly important role in recent weeks to aid United's first serious title challenge since legendary former manager Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

"We knew if we won tonight we would be top of the league when we play Liverpool".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have now taken 29 from the last possible 33 points to recover from just two wins in their opening six games of the season.

Just twelve months ago, United trailed Liverpool by 27 points when they made the short trip to Anfield.

"Of course we know we're going to the champions who have had an unbelievable three-and-a-half-seasons", said Solskjaer.

"We are seeing the best of Paul at the moment".

Newcastle's chances of getting back into the game after conceding the penalty were remote considering the team was down to 10 men at that point following the 45th-minute sending-off of winger Ryan Fraser for two yellow cards.

When Paul Pogba signed for Manchester United in a then-world record £89.1 million transfer from Juventus in August 2016, it was for nights like this at Burnley. He struck a sweet volley from 18 yards out after he was found by a Marcus Rashford cross.

He said: 'Burnley are so well organised and there's not many spaces but we did look at some of them - great cross for the goal, very well executed finish.

After United secured a 1-0 win against The Clarets, Pogba praised he teammates for their efforts but refused to get carried away.

Everton won despite being without 14-goal top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin and fellow forward Richarlison because of injury.

The Toffees took an early lead when Alex Iwobi converted Lucas Digne's cross but were pegged back when Ruben Neves levelled for Wolves.

The last time Everton visited Wolverhampton, it lost 3-0 in July to drop to 11th place in the league and prompt a furious response from manager Carlo Ancelotti, who questioned his players' spirit in what he described as an "unacceptable" display.

Solskjaer insisted back then that his players would need time to get going and he's since been proven right.

"But no-one will remember the league table on the 12th of January".

They will face the same opponents on Merseyside on Sunday.

This was Pogba's 3rd goal of the season and was pivotal for the team on the night. "We're in a good position going into it".
