NASCAR will require Hailie Deegan to take sensitivity training

Hailie Deegan apologizes to 'everyone who was offended' by her use of slur during Twitch stream NASCAR Driver Hailie Deegan Uses R-Word During Virtual Race, Apologizes

I apologize to all those who were offended. A clip circulated on social media showing Deegan speaking into her headset while driving in a virtual racing event.

In the most recent edition of NASCAR drivers getting in trouble for saying bad things during virtual races, driver Hailee Deegan found herself having to apologize for calling an online competitor a "r*tard". "There's no excuse for it, and I know I have to do better for my sponsors and my fans". Larson was sacked mid-season by his team and completed mandated sensitivity training, as well as issued multiple public apologies, before he was able to rejoin NASCAR following a six-month suspension. It took a while before he was forgiven and the Hendrick Motorsports team recruited him. Hailie Deegan would not want to jeopardize her career before it even began.

Deegan, 19, apologized for the incident on Twitter, but NASCAR confirmed on Monday evening that it would require her to complete the program before the start of the 2021 season in February, when she is set to kick off her first full-time season in the Camping World Truck Series driving a Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing. She made her Truck Series debut at Kansas last October, finishing 16th for DGR.

NASCAR announced no other sanctions against Deegan.

Earlier, in the 2020 season, she finished second at Daytona in the ARCA Series.

In 2018, the California became the first woman to win a race in NASCAR's K&N Pro Series West. Deegan now competes for Ford Racing Development in mostly lower-level NASCAR series. She was previously a Toyota development driver.
