The incident occurred in the city of Sherbrooke, in Quebec provice.
A woman tried to tell police she was walking a dog, when she had her husband on a leash, after curfew in Quebec.
"Our focus is on continuing to work with the federal government's national operations centre and the Public Health Agency of Canada to support the government's COVID-19 vaccine implementation plan", she added.
Walking of a pet is included in one of the acceptable excuses to be out of the house during curfew hours, unfortunately for the couple a human being can not legally qualify as a pet.
When cops pointed out that her husband was not a dog, the woman reportedly protested.
Under the new restrictions anyone who found on the street after 8 p.m. without a good reason will be subject to a $1,000 to $6,000 fine.
During a phone call with Daily Hive, a Sherbrooke police spokesperson said the couple "was happy to receive" a curfew infraction after not collaborating with local authorities. The excuse reportedly didn't convince the officials (apparently, men can be trained to use a toilet and don't require walks the same way that dogs do) and both the man and the woman were fined over $12,000 for breaking curfew.
The curfew comes as Quebec's Covid-19 cases and deaths continue to rise, with hospitals saying they are filling up and risk becoming overwhelmed.
The curfew in Quebec took effect last Saturday night and was implemented in hopes of curbing Covid infections within the Canadian province.
The curfew is needed to prevent gatherings that have fueled the rampant spread of the virus, Quebec Premier Francois Legault said.
Police across Quebec issued 750 tickets for violations during the first weekend of the curfew.
Canada has seen a recent spike in Covid-19 cases, recording more than 670,000 total cases since the pandemic began.
