New York City is severing its contracts with President Donald Trump's eponymous company, a move that could cost the outgoing president millions of dollars in response to his role in inciting the Capitol insurrection.

"We're going to get new vendors to take over".

It is the latest example of how the January 6 breach by violent Trump supporters is impacting the Republican president's business interests.

De Blasio said the Trump Organization earns about $17 million a year in profits from its contracts to run two ice skating rinks and a carousel in Central Park as well as a golf course in the Bronx.

NYC lawmakers had been looking into ending the Trump Organization's relationship with the city since 2019, when Democratic members of the City Council introduced a non-binding resolution calling on the mayor to exercise any termination clauses in the contracts.

Inciting an insurrection against the US government clearly constitutes criminal activity.

While the city has previously considered severing contracts with the Trump Organization, de Blasio said last week's incitement of violence qualified as "criminal activity" and gives the city the right to cut ties.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted: "New York City doesn't do business with insurrectionists".

The PGA tour voted on Sunday to remove the 2022 PGA Championship from Mr Trump's New Jersey golf course, the AP reported. "Inciting an insurrection against the United States government clearly constitutes criminal activity". The contracts for the carousel and the ice rinks would end in coming weeks.

Eric Trump, the president's son and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, said the company would challenge the city's decision to cancel the contracts. The process for terminating the Ferry Point Golf Course agreement is "more detailed and is expected to take a number of months".
