But 30 to 40 daily minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity substantially weakens this risk, bringing it down to levels associated with very low amounts of sedentary time, indicate the findings, which broadly confirm the recommendations set out in the 2020 World Health Organization Global Guidelines on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour.

In an update of its physical activity guidelines, the United Nations health agency stressed that exercise was vital to physical and mental health, while sedentary behaviour can have serious repercussions. Global health leaders agreed on the plan at the 71st World Health Assembly in 2018 with the aim to reduce physical inactivity by 15% by 2030. "These guidelines are very timely, given that we are in the middle of a global pandemic, which has confined people indoors for long periods and encouraged an increase in sedentary behavior", he says.

New Delhi: During the crisis of Corona epidemic, as a result of the lockdown rules and exit and contact with people, a large number of people have stopped doing physical exercise. "Every move counts, especially now as we manage the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic".

According to the new guidelines, every adult is expected to work out for 150 minutes per week.

Physical activity is important to help prevent heart failure, diabetes and cancer, as well as to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety and "boost brain health", WHO said in a statement.

However, those above 65 years must try to do exercise or indulge in activities that help them balance body movements and achieve better coordination including muscle-strengthening exercises.

The new research, involving more than 44,000 people wearing activity trackers from four countries, reveals that a high daily tally of sedentary time (defined in this study as 10 or more hours) is linked to a significantly heightened risk of death, particularly among people who are physically inactive.

"Any duration of physical activity is beneficial".

Currently, the scientists admit that there is not sufficient evidence available to set exact daily limits for time spent sedentary, however, the data strongly highlights the benefits of replacing sedentary activity with physical activity of any intensity when possible.

The research based on fitness trackers is broadly in line with the new World Health Organization guidelines, which recommend 150-300 mins of moderate intensity or 75-150 mins of vigorous intensity physical activity every week to counter sedentary behaviour. "And if you must spend a lot of time sitting still, whether at work or school, you should do more physical activity to counter the harmful effects of sedentary behaviour". And the new normal means that certain skills will be highly sought in the post COVID-19 world, given that many of our usual ways of living have changed. This requires acquiring new skills - not just technical but also soft skills to make a smooth transition into the new way of working. Since employees are collaborating and communicating virtually, this can raise a series of challenges. In this way, they can identify the most effective methods to rectify situations and ensure smooth functioning of business operations. Cybersecurity ExpertsSince the majority of the workforce is operating from home, hackers are using this as an opportunity to launch cyber-attacks. With IT and cyber security becoming more critical than ever, cybersecurity experts will be on the priority list for every enterprise.
