Russian Federation launches fresh crew to ISS on fast-track journey

NASA and Roscosmos have committed to continue the flight-sharing partnership and are in talks to fly Russian astronauts on USA vehicles and to fly US astronauts on Russian rockets when needed, a spokesperson for Roscosmos told Reuters.

There were two Russian cosmonauts, Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, and one NASA astronaut, Kathleen "Kate" Rubins on board, per NASA Spaceflight.

According to Roscosmos, the fastest a spacecraft has ever reached the ISS is 3 hours 19 minutes.

Speaking during Tuesday's pre-launch news conference at Baikonur, Rubins emphasized that the crew spent weeks in quarantine at the Star City training facility outside Moscow and then on Baikonur to avoid any threat from the coronavirus. The record was set during an unmanned resupply mission in August 2019.

But their Dragon Endeavour craft only docked successfully with the ISS about nineteen hours after reaching orbit.

In 2016, Rubins sequenced DNA in space for the first time.

Oxygen generation system failures happen on the ISS, but the station has oxygen reserves.

"We will take with us additional equipment which will allow us to detect the place of this leak more precisely", he told reporters. Roscosmos has had the occupation of shipping USA astronauts to the ISS since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011.

In May, after five years of development, Elon Musk's aeronautics company, SpaceX, and NASA, launched the first manned flight from USA soil in almost a decade. Before May 30, when U.S. astronauts Robert Behnken and Doug Hurley showed up at the ISS graciousness of vehicles to rockets investor Elon Musk, Russia and Baikonur had delighted in a worthwhile restraining infrastructure on crewed missions to the ISS.

Their six-month mission will coincide with the space station's 20th anniversary marking 20 years of continuous human presence.
