NBA bubble NBA Announces Regular Season To Be Split In Two Segments, Play-In For 7th, 8th Seeds
Noah Ferguson | 21 November, 2020, 08:29

Key dates for the 2020-'21 season as detailed in a press release from the league include preseason games from December 11-19; the First Half of the regular season from December 22-March 4; the All-Star break from March 5-10; the Second Half of the regular season from March 11-May 16; the play-in tournament from May 18-21; and the postseason from May 22 to July 22.

Each team will play three games against each opponent within their conference (42 games), plus teams will play random divisional foes two times apiece at home and also away.

The league has randomly assigned which two opponents will be playing twice at home and vice versa.

Every division inside a gathering will at that point play each of the five groups from another intraconference division twice at home, and each of the five groups from the leftover division twice out and about.

The schedule for the season will be announced in two parts. The schedule for the first half of the campaign will be released around the start of training camp, and the second-half schedule will be released toward the end of the first half of the season. With the National Basketball Association adding two more teams for a Play-In Tournament, the Cavs' chances of claiming a playoff spot, one of their stated goals this coming season, will increase. The second half will be unveiled during the latter part of the first half, featuring the remaining games along with any that needed to be postponed because of the virus.

The All-Star break will take place in March and there is no word yet whether there will be an All-Star Game. It will include the teams with the seventh-highest through the tenth-highest winning percentages in each conference. 7-10 spots in each conference. The playoff play-in format:-The teams with the seventh- and eighth-highest winning percentages in each conference will each have two opportunities to win one game to earn a playoff spot. The victor of that game will be the No. 8 seed in the playoffs for its conference. The NBA and National Basketball Players Association agreed to a 72-game season last week.

The NBA's play-in tournament will be a one-year test, expanding on a concept staged in the bubble used to complete the 2019-20 season. In other words, the 9th and 10th seeds will have to win two consecutive games on the road to sneak in past them. The Second Half schedule will incorporate the rest of each team's 72 games not planned for the First Half just as any games deferred during the First Half that can reasonably be added to the Second Half schedule.
