COVID-19: Alberta has 773 new cases and five more deaths Tuesday, 75 per cent of active cases have an unknown source

Alberta has confirmed 773 new cases of COVID-19 and five additional deaths within the province.
Dr. Hinshaw also reported 860 new infections Monday after Alberta Health Services conducted more than 12,000 tests. "We need each Albertan to do their part".
Alberta and British Columbia are the only provinces that have not signed onto the federal app, COVID Alert, which has been downloaded well over five million times.
"We are at a risky juncture in our province", Premier Jason Kenney said. There are 268 people in hospital, up four from Monday, and 57 people are in intensive care. With cases now hitting the 1,000 per day mark, Hinshaw said that means around 15,000 people have to be contacted every day, which is overwhelming the system.
Since the pandemic began, more than 40,000 Albertans have tested positive for COVID-19.
"People in other provinces get an automatic text message when they've been near someone who has tested positive".
"AHS will continue to directly contact all positive cases of COVID-19 to notify them of the result, identify priority contacts whom AHS will notify and provide the case with guidance on notification of their own contacts", the AHS update adds.
He said the government recently posted 425 job openings for contact tracers and hopes to have more than 1,100 working "within a few weeks".
"We must reduce the growth of COVID-19 and we must do it soon", Hinshaw said. "This pilot approach will improve the efficiency of all contact tracing and allow the contact tracing team to focus on populations at greatest risk".
The Alberta app has faced a number of issues, including the fact that it only worked on Apple devices if running in the foreground of an unlocked device.
