On Thursday, Reuters reported that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg told staff that former Trump adviser Steve Bannon has not violated enough rules to be banned from the site.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top USA infectious disease expert, said he has had no contact with President-elect Joe Biden's coronavirus transition team and sees no reason to quit to join that effort when there is so much to do now to fight the surging pandemic.
Since January, Fauci has served on President Donald Trump's White House Coronavirus Task Force, a position that has frequently put him at odds with the president, who has sought to downplay the pandemic and focused instead on opening the economy.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has become the first head of a U.S. tech giant who has acknowledged Democrat Joe Biden as the next president of the country, a media report has said.
The video was live on Bannon's Facebook page for about 10 hours last Thursday and had been viewed nearly 200,000 times before the company removed it, citing its violence and incitement policies.
Twitter and Facebook both removed the video in question.
A spokesperson for Bannon, Alexandra Preate, said in a statement that Bannon "would not and has never called for violence of any kind", and that the statements last week were "clearly meant metaphorically".
Last Friday, Facebook took down a community of different Bannon-linked pages that have been pushing false claims concerning the presidential election, after they have been flagged to the world's largest social media firm by activist group Avaaz.
However, a number of Facebook employees reportedly challenged Zuckerberg calling Biden the victor, while one of them said the election "wasn't fair". The company removed the video, but has not banned Bannon.
Biden, for his part, has in the past referred to Facebook as "a real problem", while his staffer Bill Russo accused the social media behemoth of "shredding the fabric of our democracy in the days after" last week's vote.
The incoming administration was "not monolithic", Zuckerberg said.
But he expressed hope about the prospects for a successful vaccine, saying "we are fortunate because the first one out of the gate is more than 90 percent, probably close to 95 percent effective".
Arrested in August, Bannon has pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors to the $25 million "We Build the Wall" campaign. Bannon has dismissed the costs as politically motivated.
