United States election: Biden extends lead over Trump with Arizona win

Joe Biden wearing a suit and tie President-elect Joe Biden speaks to the media while flanked by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on November 9 in Wilmington Delaware 'Time will tell': Trump comes closest yet to admitting defeat

Supporters of President Donald Trump protest in Washington, Nov. 13, 2020.

With Georgia, Biden now has 306 electoral votes, well past the 270 needed to win the presidency.

Biden declared victory for the USA presidential race about a week ago, hours after he was projected to have won Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes and thus passed the required 270-vote threshold.

"We understand that the result of the USA presidential election will be determined following the USA laws and procedures", Wang said.

The remarks were Trump's first since November 5, when he falsely claimed to have won and said the election was "rigged" against him.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said Friday that the Trump administration is operating as if President Trump will serve a second term despite Joe Biden's apparent victory, which the president is challenging via various lawsuits in key battleground states.

A The Hill report said on Friday that the Trump campaign has ended a hotline it established last week for Americans to report voter fraud allegations after the line was filled with prank calls and messages mocking the president's reelection bid.

As of Friday afternoon, Biden led Trump by more than 14,000 votes with 99 percent of precincts reporting in Georgia, which hadn't voted for a Democratic White House hopeful in nearly 30 years.

With Trump legal challenges faltering, a number of conservative activists close to the president have floated the idea that Republican-controlled state legislatures could override the popular vote and hand the electoral votes to Trump.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger chose to audit the presidential race and said the tight margin meant a full hand count of ballots was necessary to complete the audit.

And as cases reach new heights, Mr Trump's campaign prediction that the USA was "rounding the turn" on the pandemic has met a harsh reality, with his own White House becoming the focus of yet another outbreak.

Porter Wright filed the motion Thursday, as criticism grew that law firms backing the Republican election challenges were helping Trump defy the will of the American people.

"If this is a strategy, I don't think it will be successful", said Edward Foley, a constitutional law professor at Ohio State University.

"The speed with which the [Michigan] judge was able to dispose of these cases underscores how thin the arguments are that the Trump lawyers are making", Caldera said.

"As the standoff turns to legal maneuverings, the markets could quickly take on a risk-off posture as the United States fails to have a peaceful transition of power for the first time in history".

Other legal experts say any change in the appointment method would have to be made before, not after, the election. On the night of 7 November, Biden delivered a "victory" speech in Wilmington, after USA media called Pennsylvania state in his favour, despite votes still being counted in major battleground states.

"He's clearly not going to disappoint those people - he's going to wait until after that at least".
