Steelers activate Ben Roethlisberger off reserve/COVID-19 list for Bengals game

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is one of four more players on the Steelers roster to be added to the COVID-19/reserve list.

The development comes after tight end Vance McDonald tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday.

"The players will need to pass COVID-19 tests throughout the week before they are potentially eligible to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday".

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and three of his teammates - linebacker Vince Williams, running back Jaylen Samuels and offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins - were put on the reserve/Covid-19 list Tuesday. Roethlisberger and the three others appeared to be close contacts since the Steelers' statement noted they had to isolate for five days.

Players on the list either tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

"Those guys will be working remotely throughout the week and testing daily", Tomlin said.

Roethlisberger is now in the midst of an impressive comeback campaign, throwing 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions as he commands the NFL's only remaining undefeated team.

McDonald had missed a training session last week after complaining of feeling unwell, but joined the Steelers and played in Sunday's 24-19 road victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff for the game is at 4:25 p.m. after it was flexed by the NFL.
