US first lady defends Trump over alleged 'losers' quip

Trump-Hater John Bolton Debunks Anonymous Atlantic Hit Piece On Trump's Veterans Record Did Trump Call McCain a Loser?

Top officials from his administration came out in open in support of Trump.

The number of former Republican lawmakers and officials endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden continues to grow as a new group representing nearly 100 prominent Republicans including several former governors endorsed the former vice president on Thursday.

Returning to Washington from a Thursday visit to Pennsylvania, Mr Trump told reporters that the Atlantic report was "a disgraceful situation" by a "terrible magazine".

Biden said Trump's reported comments led him to come the closest he's been to losing his temper during the 2020 presidential race.

Fox News on Friday became the latest publication to confirm President Donald Trump's contempt for Americans who serve in our armed forces. The report, citing unnamed sources, alleged that the president called Republican leaders who fought in major wars "suckers" and "losers".

Trump said: "He lost [the 2008 election], so I never liked him as much after that because I don't like losers". "It's filled with losers".

The Atlantic also said Trump, in a separate conversation on the same trip, referred to more than 1,800 U.S. soldiers who died during the consequential 1918 battle at Belleau Wood as "suckers" for getting killed.

The article Trump shared in July 2015 was referring to an appearance then-candidate Trump made at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. I think even for those people who have no family members in the armed services and the military, they have an innate understanding that these are people worthy of respect and even veneration. "This fake press is a disgrace". And if you read it, he talks about this incident and he doesn't mention it. "Now all of a sudden somebody makes up this disgusting story that I didn't want to go, and then they make up an even worse story, an even worse story, calling certain names to our fallen heroes ..." Them being all of the people buried in that section, including presumably his son.

Several current and former White House officials vehemently pushed back on the report.

According to Trump, the Atlantic article claiming he has offended American war veterans is another "hoax" targeting his election campaign.

"The article by The Atlantic is not true", replied Melania Trump on Twitter. "That has been debunked", McEnany said. "The only time that I have been on notice is when the President's out of the country, and I'm in the country", Mr Biden said. That I got rid of, and I couldn't get rid of them fast enough.

"I would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes", Trump told the reporters, gathered on the tarmac in the dark. And that is a disservice to the people of our great nation, "added the first lady".

The ousted Trump White House national security adviser also addressed The Atlantic's anonymously sourced claims in an interview with Bloomberg, denying that he ever heard the any of the alleged remarks attributed to the president and said those quoted by the magazine ought to publicly go on record. "I am disgusted by this false attack", she tweeted.

"Complete lies by "anonymous sources" that were "dropped" just as he begins to campaign (and surge)".
