Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that German midfielder Kai Havertz has left the Stuttgart headquarters of his national team and his on his way to Chelsea.

Chelsea have been working on the deal to sign Havertz for several weeks and they finally have a deal in place with Leverkusen to sign the 21-year-old Germany star.

Havertz was an unused substitute in Germany's 1-1 Nations League draw with Spain on Thursday, with the German team set to face Switzerland on Sunday.

Havertz will become Lampard's sixth signing of the summer following the arrival of Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and Timo Werner.

Chelsea are edging closer to securing a deal for Kai Havertz this summer.

Havertz has spent his entire career at Bayer Leverkusen, contributing an impressive 36 goals and 25 assists in just 118 Bundesliga appearances since making his debut in October 2016.

"We knew that the last details would be clarified today and tomorrow with his contract with Chelsea", he said. He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent.

That backs up suggestions from elsewhere, namely Germany coach Joachim Löw, who has also made it clear the player was on the way to Stamford Bridge. Of course we would have preferred if he could have fully concentrated on the national team at the start of the new worldwide season.

"Will he play in the No 10 role and become the new Mesut Ozil or will he settle a bit deeper and become the new Toni Kroos?"
