England captain Eoin Morgan believes Australia are slight favourites for the three match T20I series which begins on Friday (September 4) at Ageas Bowl in Southampton but is happy with the progression of his side towards next year's T20 World Cup in India.

Australia is ranked No.1 in the format, with arch rivals England No.2. The last they played an worldwide game in an ODI against New Zealand in March 2020 in a series abandoned midway due to the pandemic.

Australia, the world's number one ranked T20 side, included Marcus Stoinis after the all-rounder impressed in their intra-squad warm-up matches in England ahead of the opening global of their tour. "If you're to go on that I'd say they're just favourites", Cricket.com.au quoted Morgan as saying when asked who he considers favourites for the series.

England have rarely had their strongest T20I side available during the past two years.

This series will be another chance for the likes of Tom Banton, Sam Billings, and Dawid Malan to further their case for a permanent spot in the T20 line-up as England looks to build towards the next T20 World Cup. Given that reality, the consistency of results have been impressive. "I think a few of our guys will appreciate it a little bit more than others, but at the same time we've probably spent 90 per cent of our careers playing in front of no one, from club cricket, junior cricket, even state cricket at times, so it doesn't change too much".

England have hosted a number of series, with strict guidelines and protocols put in place to safeguard players from the coronavirus. "For the first time this summer, we are seeing the majority of our best team on the park and that's great", Morgan said.

"We've had a couple of intense hit-outs here".

"That is a nice place to be every now and then".

"We found in the lead-in to the 50-over World Cup that was the best position to be in". "We have had that conversation with Joe and he certainly does have a future", Morgan said.

'My record is much better away but I'm not going to get better if I don't play at home, ' he added. "We haven't decided. But like he has done since he came into worldwide cricket, he's done everything he possibly could".

For Australia, their batting unit is studded with some big names after the availability of Marcus Stoinis and particularly Glenn Maxwell, who made a decision to take a break for his mental health a year ago. "We felt it was a really good opportunity for him to do that".

Top-ranked T20 side Australia also face England, the world champions in 50-over cricket, in three one-day internationals later this month. "He was supposed to be in this squad as a reserve but chose to go back and play for Yorkshire".

Mark Wood wants to turn the heat up on Australia in six white-ball matches that provide the flawless finale to an imperfect season and lay down a marker for the next Ashes. Although the return of Archer and Wood should increase their potency in the Powerplay, Morgan said Willey also remained in contention for future series.

"We have worked really hard over this Covid period on how we can improve our one-day cricket", Langer said. "His omission from the Pakistan T20s weren't performance based". We know what to expect and we'll be ready'.

"You could play in a street and it would still be there".
