The exam which has been postponed twice in view of COVID-19 pandemic is scheduled from September 1 to 6. The judges then decide "in-chambers" whether there is any merit in the review petition to re-examine the case in the open court hearing.

Sharing the information, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted, "Indian Railways has made a decision to run 20 pairs of MEMU / DEMU special trains from September 2 to 15 for the convenience of candidates joining JEE Mains, NEET and NDA in Bihar".

The review plea has been filed by ministers from West Bengal (Moloy Ghatak), Jharkhand (Rameshwar Oraon), Rajasthan (Raghu Sharma), Chhattisgarh (Amarjeet Bhagat), Punjab (B S Sidhu) and Maharashtra (Uday Ravindra Sawant). "Station and Security officials at stations have been instructed suitably to allow the students on the exam days", it said.

The court said any aggrieved student could file an application to the NTA via their centre coordinator.

There was a huge demand that the government postpone entrance exams for medical and engineering colleges in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and floods in several parts of the nation.

It may be noted that the crucial JEE Mains examination began at 9 am amid strict COVID-19 precautions to ensure the safety of students across the country. The Railway Minister also said, besides NEET and JEE candidates, the facility of special trains will also be extended to those appearing for the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance exam.

The petition said that as per the NIA press release, approximately 9.53 lakhs and 15.97 lakhs students have been registered for JEE (Main) and NEET (UG) 2020 respectively. Similarly for NEET UG, 15.97 lakhs students will appear in 3,843 centres across the country, almost 415 students per centre, it said. "Each candidate will be offered a 3-ply mask at the time of entry and expected to wear the same during the examination in order to avoid any form of unfair means at the time of examination", the official added.

India on Tuesday recorded almost 70,000 fresh cases in the country, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to more than 3.69 million.
