Apple Just Terminated Epic Games’ Developer Account

Apple shuts down Epic Games developer account Facebook claims Apple tried to block it telling users of App Store fee

The Cupertino tech giant on Friday followed through with a promise to shut down Epic's developer account on august 28. The pulling of the app began once Epic Games implemented its own direct payment method alongside Apple's in-app payments, beginning the antitrust lawsuit between the two companies. On Monday, August 24, a judge denied Epic's attempt to gain a temporary restraining order to keep Fortnite available, while granting one to protect Epic Games' game development platform Unreal Engine, which brings us to today. Since January 2012, Epic mobile games have been downloaded more than 159 million times through the App Store, generating about US$1.2 billion in consumer spending, with roughly US$360 million of this going to Apple, according to estimates from Sensor Tower.

Epic was however to debate Apple's call as the US choose dominated within the week that Apple will not delete the developer account of Epic Games that support open and period 3D creation platform Unreal Engine however can keep the Fortnite game removed from App Store for violating its policies.

Although Fortnite isn't now available to download on iOS, anybody with the game already installed can continue to enjoy the Chapter 2 Season 3 build.

"We asked Apple to reduce its 30% App Store tax or allow us to offer Facebook Pay so we could absorb all costs for businesses struggling during COVID-19", Simo explained in a post.

Epic will either have to upgrade the program or risk losing its Apple programmer account entirely.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment. It's just a shame that they've been "left behind" due to the ongoing drama, in the words of Epic Games.

By calling out Apple, Simo escalated a brewing battle between Facebook and the iPhone maker. The court recommended that Epic comply with the ‌App Store‌ guidelines while their case moves forward, guidelines they've followed for the past decade until they created this situation.

This is not fair to all other developers on the ‌App Store‌ and is putting customers in the middle of their fight. However, since the update is released after "Fortnite" was removed from the App Store, this means gamers who use iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices can no longer update the gaming app.

Facebook stated that Apple cited an App Store rule which bars developers from showing "irrelevant" information to users. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 is well underway on other platforms, introducing the Marvel x Fortnite crossover event titled Nexus War.
