That allowed for several days of contact tracing and testing to confirm that the positive (s) were isolated exposures without any additional spread among the team.

"The Oakland A's learned today that a member of the organization has tested positive for COVID-19 and Major League Baseball has postponed today's game in Houston at Minute Maid Park", the statement read. The team is self-isolating in Houston after conducting testing and contract tracing for everyone in its traveling party, according to a release.

"We felt like this message was bigger than missing another game to show support for our brothers, not only on our team but across the league as well to let them know we have their backs", Astros outfielder Josh Reddick said.

The A's are scheduled to start a three-game series on Tuesday in Seattle. The doubleheader was scheduled after the A's and Astros decided not to play Friday night to raise awareness of racial inequality in the wake of the police shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Wisconsin. "I think we all feel the same way".

COVID-19 screening has now postponed 38 games.

After months of talks over financial issues as well as safety measures, Major League Baseball and players agreed on a season of 60 games per team that began in July, played in empty home stadiums for television cameras.

MLB's plan to play a pandemic-shortened 60-game regular season has been interrupted by positive coronavirus tests, protests over racial injustice, a hurricane and rain - and that's just in the past week.

It's not clear whether Oakland will be able to get through MLB's process in time to start Tuesday's series as scheduled, but this certainly would be a step in the right direction.

This is the first time that a team playing in a West Division - American League or National League - has been struck. Houston starters took their positions, with other players on both equally sides lining up in front of their dugouts. Houston's game on Wednesday against the Angels was postponed.
