On worldwide flights, only pre-packed cold meals and snacks were being served depending on the flight duration since May this year, as per a PTI report.

According to current regulations, the government has also allowed in-flight entertainment on domestic and worldwide flights.

The government meanwhile has permitted the airlines to serve pre-packed snacks, meals and beverages on domestic flights and hot meals on global flights. "Flyers who refuse to wear face masks during a flight can be put on no-fly list", a senior DGCA official said.

For the global flights, the now updated SOP states that the airlines may serve hot meals with limited beverages.

Scheduled worldwide passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23.

The country's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday asked the airlines to put on a no-fly list those air passengers who are not prepared to wear masks during flight and violate the set COVID-19 pandemic standard operating procedure (SOP). "Crew shall wear a fresh set of gloves for every meal/beverage service", said the ministry.

It may be noted that when domestic flights resumed on 25 May, the government banned food and beverage services as well as flying entertainment. The government has asked the airlines to ensure that disposable earphones are used, or that clean and germ-free earphones are provided to passengers.

The official said no new order has been passed in this regard as the airline and its cabin crew are sufficiently empowered under the existing DGCA rules to take action. International Flights to Remain Suspended Till September 30?

The government had approved domestic flights to fly again from May 25, but keeping in mind the safety and hygiene, the government had prohibited serving food or drinks on flights. Furthermore, some global flights can choose to serve hot meals. As per the SOPs, an airline operating flights during the COVID-19 has been mandated to provide their passengers with a face-shield, face mask, and hand sanitizer prior to boarding the aircraft.
