COVID-19 contacts should be tested, regardless of symptoms

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website earlier this week shifted from its position that all close contacts of known COVID-19 cases should be tested, suggesting that those with no symptoms "do not necessarily need a test".

"Everyone who needs a Covid-19 test, can get a test", the CDC director said.

"Quietly and without an explanation, the CDC on Monday changed its testing policy to no longer recommend a coronavirus test for people who have come in close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case but have no symptoms", the Harvard experts wrote.

The old guidelines said people who had been exposed to someone with coronavirus should get tested. Previously, the CDC had advised such individuals to get tested.
