Johnny Depp tells High Court he got superbug after finger was severed

'Heard was the abuser', says Depp's ex-PA Depp tells court he did not intend to headbutt ex-wife

Depp is said to have attacked Heard, 34, throughout their tempestuous relationship, which has been described as "a crime scene waiting to happen", and put her in fear for her life - claims he says are "a choreographed hoax".

The star was wrapping up his testimony for the case, in which he is suing the publisher and executive editor of Britain's The Sun newspaper over a 2018 story branding him a "wife beater". Deuters said Depp had been addicted to opiates, which had a downing effect.

Deuters said Depp "was not drunk, but was very low, very quiet". "I was obviously on the nod and very exhausted, falling asleep, and the ice cream then spilled all over my leg and then she took that ... and showed me the next day and said "Look at what you've become ... look at you, it's pathetic".

Mr Deuters said he was with the couple on a flight from Boston to Los Angeles in May 2014, when an incident is alleged to have taken place.

A few weeks after that incident Depp is accused of repeatedly punching Heard. Mr Sherborne asked: "Did you intend to headbutt her?".

NGN is defending the article as true, and says Mr Depp was "controlling and verbally and physically abusive towards Ms Heard, particularly when he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs".

Ms Paradis, 47, and Ms Ryder, 48, were originally due to give evidence this week, as was alleged Harvey Weinstein victim Katherine Kendall, 50, who accuses Mr Wootton of "deliberately misusing" her quotes and "using the #MeToo movement" to damage Mr Depp.

"This was a common theme on the multiple times when Mr Depp was abused by Ms Heard - he would take himself away from the situation, often to a bathroom, and lock himself out harm's way", he said.

During the hearing the actor again rejected accusations he had hit his ex-wife Amber Heard and accused her of using violence against him.

The court has been shown a number of pictures that Ms Heard took of herself with injuries she alleges Mr Depp inflicted.

Mr Sherborne then referred to a recording of a conversation between Mr Depp and Ms Heard, made without the actor's knowledge, when they met in a San Francisco hotel room in July 2016, shortly after Ms Heard had obtained a restraining order.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp is now suing British newspaper The Sun over a 2018 article referring to him as a "wife-beater" following the claims of his ex-wife Amber Heard.

He adds that he made this discovery on the same night as Amber's 30th birthday party, to which he was late, and claimed she punched him.

However, Heard claimed that during that flight, Depp had been drinking heavily and had thrown objects at her, pushed a chair at her, and slapped and kicked her before passing out in the bathroom.

He said he grabbed his ex-wife to "lock her arms" in an attempt to stop her attacking him and that he had not been violent to her.

The actor is suing NGN and Mr Wootton over the publication of an article on April 27 2018 with the headline: "Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be 'genuinely happy" casting wife beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?'

Depp denies that he was violent toward Heard, to whom he was married from 2015 to 2017.

Last week, the court heard evidence about the trip to Australia, during which it is alleged Mr Depp assaulted Ms Heard and "completely destroyed" a house in a drink and drug-fuelled rage, which he denies.
