Fox News has fired longtime anchor Ed Henry after investigating a complaint about "willful sexual misconduct in the workplace".

Henry co-hosted the Fox News program opposite Sandra Smith since January 2020.

"We immediately retained an outside law firm (which has never represented FOX News in investigation or litigation) to independently investigate the claims".

The former colleague who accused Henry of sexual misconduct is represented by attorney Douglas Wigdor, who has represented women in a number of high-profile discrimination and sexual harassment cases, including 20 women who have leveled complaints over their treatment while working at Fox and several who made allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Details, including the employee's name, were not disclosed but Fox News said the alleged misconduct occurred "years ago". Mr Henry joined Fox News from CNN in 2011.

"Rotating anchors will be sitting in with me until a replacement is named", she stated.

Henry continued at the helm of much of the network's coverage of Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016 before being sidelined over a tabloid scandal.

"On Thursday, June 25, we received a complaint about Ed Henry from a former employee's attorney involving willful sexual misconduct in the workplace years ago".

His 2019 decision to donate part of his liver to save his sister Colleen's life was chronicled across Fox's shows.

"We would like to bring a very serious matter to your attention in an effort toward full transparency given the many actions we have taken to improve the culture here over the last four years", read the letter penned by Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace.

Meanwhile, HarperCollins said Wednesday that it would no longer publish a book by Henry that had been scheduled for September. In December, he become the co-host of the morning news show America's Newsroom.

In July 2016, then-Fox News chairman Roger Ailes left the network after an external investigation that was launched after former anchor Gretchen Carlson sued him for sexual harassment.

Bill O'Reilly, once the network's top star, was forced out of the network less than a year later after facing allegations of sexual harassment, which he also denied.
