When asked about the video on CNN's State of the Union later on Sunday morning, Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar said he hadn't seen the tweet, but defended Trump against accusations of supporting white supremacy.

"I've not seen that video or that tweet, but obviously neither the President, his administration nor I would do anything to be supportive of white supremacy or anything that would support discrimination of any kind", Azar said.

"Nazi racist pig!" the anti-Trump protester shouts at another pro-Trump golf cart.

The president retweeted the video to his millions of followers just after 7:30 a.m., thanking "the great people of The Villages", the Florida retirement community where the clash apparently took place.

Trump deleted the tweet more than three hours after posting it.

Ahead of the tweet was deleted, South Carolina Sen. Amid the ongoing mass protests in US against racism, provoked by the murder of black George Floyd in Minneapolis in late may, and over four months before the presidential election Trump, who had previously been accused of fuelling racist attitudes, similar scandals are not needed.

"What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters", Deere added.

"He doesn't pay attention to a lot of things", said John Bolton on State of the Union about Trump's awareness of the video's content, per the Wall Street Journal.

The president has been accused of worsening racial tensions in the country over the course of his time in the White House, while failing to promote a reconciliation programme.

Trump generally denies his language is racist or inflammatory and dismisses criticism as political correctness.

"We're in a battle for the soul of the nation - and the President has picked a side", Biden tweeted.

The tweet comes on the heels of Trump's hostile response to protests against racial injustice engulfing the United States following the death of Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minneapolis. (Even some of Trump's Republican members of Congress are open to renaming these bases.) Trump has also criticized those who want to tear down statues that honor Confederate leaders for trying to destroy our "heritage". But make no mistake: "it's a battle we will win", the former vice president tweeted.
