With a film like Respect, what is going to hook audiences and get their attention is the music of Aretha Franklin, and a taste of what to expect from Jennifer Hudson's performance, and that's exactly what this preview delivers without overstaying its welcome.

Watch the trailer above and check out the new poster below.

The movie also stars Marc Maron, Mary J. Blige, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Queen Latifah, Tate Donovan, Tituss Burgess and Sky Dakota Turner.

According to the film's synopsis: "Aretha Franklin sings in her father's church choir as a child and grows up to become an worldwide musical superstar and legend".

Jennifer Hudson wowed during the 2020 BET Awards last night - in more ways than one. In the 90 second clip, Jennifer covers Aretha's signature 1967 hit "Respect", and absolutely slayed. The movie is directed by Liesl Tommy (the first Black woman ever nominated for a Tony award for best direction of a play in 2016 for Eclipsed).

The Queen of Soul was a part of the film's production up until her death in 2018. However, its premiere was pushed back due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and is now set to arrive this fall. It will now be in theaters on limited release on December 25. It will expand to a full wide release on January 15, 2021.
