State of Texas enters second phase of reopening plan

Governor adds adult sports leagues, water parks to reopen list Report: Texas governor does about face, will now allow limited fans at outdoor sporting events

Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage said that there are too many unknowns to allow fans to attend on such short notice and that the June 6th IndyCar season opener may be without fans in attendance.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Thursday that outdoor stadiums will be allowed to open to fans next month at limited capacity for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began.

While many state leaders have discussed the possibility of reopening stadiums to professional sports teams, most have said welcoming fans inside to watch competitions will not be possible until the country achieves better containment of the virus.

Indoor events will still be without spectators.

Then, new guidance was posted on Governor Abbott's "Strike Force to Open Texas" webpage, detailing health and safety measures that all the leagues should consider.

But the latest announcement means, effective from 29th May, outdoor stadiums in Texas counties will be permitted to stage live sports, with spectator numbers limited to 25 per cent of their normal capacity, pending approval from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Reopenings, Abbott said, must adhere to restricted occupancy levels and minimum standard health protocols laid out by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Teams impacted by the proclamation include the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, and Houston Dash.

A revised proclamation was issued recently, allowing spectators at outdoor events up to 25% capacity.

Athletes will not be required to wear masks, but the guidelines encourage them to wear them on the sidelines.

The order does not address college sports events. However, most patients recover.
